This delicious treat and gives you an opportunity to practice a simple bartending skill to create a tempting layer of chocolate and cherry.

You just need a few ingredients for this rather sweet, very chocolatey cocktail, though it’s an indulgence you won’t regret.

1 1/2 ounces crème de cacao (dark)
1/2 ounce vodka
1 teaspoon chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon cherry brandy

In a cocktail shaker, pour the crème de cacao and vodka. Add ice and shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass with fresh ice cubes. Float the chocolate syrup and cherry brandy on top by pouring them over with the Layering Tool.

Another point to layering cocktails is to enjoy the drink as it changes. This Vertigo recipe is proof of why this technique works so well. The first taste you get will be different than the last, and that’s what makes it so fascinating!

1/2 ounce lemon juice
4 ounces ginger ale
2 ounces Averna
Garnish: lime wedge

Gather the ingredients. In a highball glass, stir the lemon juice and ginger ale with ice. Float Averna on top by slowly pouring it over the layering tool. Garnish with a lime wedge. Serve and enjoy!
